Meet Nathaniel Vallee

One of the most exciting things about being a start-up is building our team—bringing together talented individuals who help us shape our vision and culture. Over the next while, we’ll be introducing more of our team at Ground Truth Ag, continuing with Nathaniel Vallee, Junior Machine Learning Developer.

Nathaniel’s journey with Ground Truth Ag began at Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Digital Integration Centre of Excellence (DICE), where he worked on an applied research project supporting our machine learning development.

“I liked what Ground Truth Ag was doing, and I saw the potential of the technology. It’s something that could be useful not just in Canada, but worldwide,” he says. After working on the project, he made the transition to join the team full-time in August, relocating from Saskatoon to Regina for the role.

Building the Future of AI in Ag

As a Junior Machine Learning Developer, Nathaniel works on building software and applications to support AI training and development. His role helps refine the automated grain grading models, ensuring that the system continuously learns and improves.

“I enjoy being able to build and create—that’s what I love about software development. At Ground Truth Ag, I get to develop applications that directly impact how we train AI models for grain grading.”

While his work has primarily focused on developing applications for AI training, his goal is to take on more AI development tasks and further refine his skills as a machine learning developer.

Why Ground Truth Ag?

For Nathaniel, one of the best parts of working at Ground Truth Ag is the collaborative, open culture.

“The team here is great. It’s a close-knit group, and I really appreciate how accessible leadership is. If I have an idea or question, I can easily walk into Kyle’s office or talk with anyone on the team.”

Being part of a startup means working on exciting challenges and having the opportunity to take ownership of projects, something that Nathaniel values in his role.

Outside of Work

When he’s not working on AI applications, Nathaniel enjoys traveling, motorsports, and gaming.

  • Motocross enthusiast – Loves the thrill of off-road rally racing and plans to get more involved locally.

  • World traveller – Spent three months in New Zealand before joining Ground Truth Ag.

  • Gaming & entertainment – Enjoys playing video games, watching movies, and attending concerts.

  • Running – Picked up running over the past year, though winter weather has slowed that down.

Looking Ahead

Nathaniel is excited to continue developing new tools to support AI in grain grading, helping to push the boundaries of automated quality assessment in agriculture.

We’re proud to have him on the team—stay tuned for more Meet the Team stories as we introduce the people behind Ground Truth Ag!
